these nine pieces follow a special theme, reflecting on the dichotomy of waking and sleeping realms—more specifically, the blurry borderland in between. it was an interesting choice to omit individual credits in favor of a more unified anonymity... is it perhaps because self-identity is an illusion of the waking world?

i think my favorite one is part VII, a poem turning a haggard, bloodshot eye upward in lunatic bewilderment. but there's a good deal of variety hidden in this unassuming collection, so i recommend you read them all to find which one resonates the most with you.

if i'm not mistaken, 'hypnagogia' will be returning in the next issue...

I imagine it will, unless its authors get hit by three very widely separated trains.

That could be trouble. It would mean a snake or something lives in the trestles.

here's an audio version of hypnagogia part 7 (download). i don't like my reading voice, but i think we should do more of these things. this could even be used as voice-over for a video, if you want to get crazy fancy.

Your voice sounds fine JJ. The whole piece is good. The reading and the crescendo are timed just right.

Me like.

I didn't get to hear this until today. It does sound good. And if you're not quite happy with the way one of your readings come out, just try it again. Or do what I do when I don't like the sound of something--add more effects.

I'm interested in the idea of adding some multimedia to this site. We could do it without eating up a lot of the site's space. Videos can be uploaded to youtube and the code can be pasted into a page no different from the ones we use for the stories and art. Audio can be done the same way.

I can't make any promises, but (besides the next FH commercial) I'm at work now and then on some things that may give us another element of variety--and another way to draw visitors.

Take a look at this (posted to the 02 directory so it could be seen with the usual graphics).

i've considered using the text-to-speech voices on this computer to recite something... but i haven't found an good way to control cadence or emphasis. the robotic spookiness only goes so far until it's just silly. it might work in very small doses, like sound bites or individual phrases. i dunno, maybe i'll try some stuff out.
