I enjoyed my sneak peek at this, but need to go back and read it chronologically, rather than cheat.

thanks ron, i'm glad you liked 'what comes after' (the title of part 3). of the 3 parts, i think this one could best stand alone as a short story. but of course i hope everyone reads part I and part II as well.

this was inspired by the work of authors like hp lovecraft, fritz leiber and robert e howard. their fans will easily recognize their influences (and some outright plagiarism) in 'the coyman manuscript.' also, the old regulars at the temple of dagon forum were very supportive during the writing process.

there's a lot more i can say about this story, but i'm thinking of saving it up for a blog article. i'll be happy to answer any questions though.

Have you seen this? It's supposed to present the misdeeds of a managed community, although the promised material hasn't appeared yet.

nope, i wasn't aware of that. but it doesn't surprise me that treachery abounds in any place called chaparral heights. ehehe

there are actually several places in the US, suburban developments mostly, called 'chaparral heights.' i was startled last year to find one of them in the nearby city of walnut, ca. i spent some of my childhood in that town, so i wonder if this name was somehow imprinted on me...

Yeah, I noticed that there were CHs in CA and AZ.

I remember seeing that picture once before. I especially like how the signed is cracked along the grain. I wonder if it wouldn't look good added somewhere in the Coyman Ms., maybe with one or two other pics?

i have thought about going back there with a better camera (this was taken with my phone). maybe a night shot would be cool.. i'm not sure what kind of lighting they throw on the sign, but one of these days when i get over to walnut i'll scope it out.

At long last, I have focused my attention long enough to reserve a copy of a book containing Leiber's "Terror from the Depths", which I understand bears some relation to this story, at least in the quotation of a few lines of poetry. Will report back on the coincidences, intentional or accidental.

Fritz Lieber is always worth reading.

No one ever wrote sword and sorcery like him-often he was said to have invented the genre-though Joanna Russ' Alyx stories rather caught the same vibe(and Alyx seems to have inhabited the same universe as Fafhrd and the Mouser, indeed, they actually met!)

I wept when he died, actually wept.
