Reposted from another thread:

"I'd like to say that there was some cosmic event that led to my writing "The Inheritance", but there was not. The story just popped into my head as a "seed idea." I let it stew awhile, worked with it, and voila!

"This tale nudges right up to saying that it's a Mythos story without actually committing to it. The similarities are there, minus the jumble of unutterable consonants and whatnot.

"I do believe that there is plenty of room left for writing Mythos tales where the "minor players" are concerned. But adding too many more "Who's Who Heavies" to the Mythos would be difficult, and might run the risk of cheapening the niche.

Great story Ron. I really enjoyed it. I ended too soon, but good stories often do. Reading into it I thought there would be some ghastly horror waiting for them at the ranch. Some scientific blunder. I was even about to raise questions about the cane, thinking it wasn't going to come back into play. Then the uncle shows up. I didn't expect it to be the uncle. What great descriptions. I could easily see that uncle-thing slurping across the ground.

I did notice a typo "He was just about to go and search from William so that the two could leave when the overhead lights flickered" "for"

Most of my stories are written the same way. Nothing grand or earth shattering causes the story. I just get a simple idea, often timesjust one scene of the story and I build around it. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to reading more in the upcoming issues.

...thanks to one and all! Too often, we have semi-memorized many of the passages in our heads. And when we reread them for the umpteenth time, we fail to see 'em.

I hope that everyone had a blessed Christmas, and that you'll be looking forward to an equally productive new year.
