it's no surprise when faber gives us something of high quality, but i think this story might be my favorite. it was roundly bludgeoned with praise in the workshop. here's what i said in there:duuuuuuuude! wow that's a cool story. it drills a wormhole through the fourth wall. i almost expected an epilogue like 'and then burke placed his cursor in the quick reply box and typed duuuuuuuude! wow that's a cool story...'

This story is well worth reading many times.
Perhaps there is no other compliment for the author that means as much as a reader saying "I've read this tale multiple times, and it draws me back yet again."
This is high praise, for among such tales are Stephen King's "The Mangler", Algernon Blackwood's "The Wendigo", David Morrell's "Orange is for Anguish, Blue for Insanity", Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward", "The Dunwich Horror", and William Hope Hodgson's "The Derelect". There are others as well.
But over a lifetime of reading, it's rare to find a story we simply must read multiple times because we have no choice.
This was one of them.
