A monkey riding a dog is probably the awesomest thing that could ever happen.

Damn good story-just transgressive enough to have that certain atmosphere(think ''Lolita'') and as part of a series, one to open possibilities.

I like it.

thankew, i'm glad you weren't too disoriented or fatigued by the winding road. this is the third chunk of my 'chaparral heights' saga, but the first time i've attempted to naturalize my voice, so to speak. but that wasn't enough of a challenge, it seems, so i mixed up the timeline and left a bunch of things unexplained.

i have a list of events in chronological order in case anyone falls off the hay cart... and i'll be happy to help clear things up (to the extent that horror isn't diminished).

ps. re: lolita, i originally considered opening the story with song lyrics. the story takes place in 1987—i don't say that explicitly, but i use musical snippets to help zero in. anyway, one of the candidates was this from the police: "It's no use, he sees her / He starts to shake and cough / Just like the old man in / That book by Nabokov" ..that's a song about inappropriate teacher-student relations.
